The Northern Precision Products machining processes are primarily centered on the very efficient six-spindle Acme screw machines. This equipment enables NPP to simultaneously machine six different pieces, in a progressive sequence. The net result of such a process is to complete a part in one-sixth the time it would require on a single spindle machine. These machines are able to work much more efficiently than many of the newest high technology machine centers that cost ten times as much, or more.

To supplement the machining capabilities of the Acmes, NPP maintains a complete secondary operations department including cross drilling, milling, ID/OD threading and back-finishing machining centers. In addition, our Miyano CNC lathes provide Northern Precision Products the capability to fulfill prototype and service part orders for existing Acme customers.

Maintaining a focused machining strategy, centered on Acme screw machines, reduces NPP’s potential capital investment in other independent machining technology. This "cost avoidance" plays a significant role in helping NPP to keep operating costs to a bare minimum. Additionally, NPP’s rural manufacturing location provides a low cost-of-living environment and, combined with the lean management and indirect labor staffing levels, leads to low overhead costs. Full rod delivery truck loads and mill-direct economies-of-scale provide NPP a further cost advantage not available to most of our competition.

We also have a complete reclamation system in place to process our large volume of machining chips, allowing us to recover and recycle our material and cutting oil very efficiently.

Besides machining, NPP services include assembly, inspection & testing, and warehousing & JIT supply. In addition, to offer our customers a single start-to-finish supply chain source, we can procure an even greater range of services through our established relationships with select post-machining processors, such as plating, anodizing, thread-coating, and heat treating.
